[Evolution, Covid-19 and Natural Selection with Spencer Wells: EMP Podcast 55]
The second half of our conversation revolves entirely around the coronavirus pandemic and infectious diseases in general. Among many other things, Spencer is well educated in virology and immunology and throughout his travels and studies, he’s gained unique experiences and insights that have informed his very serious outlook on the current pandemic.
The situation we’re facing now, especially in the western hemisphere, is a bleak one. However, by studying treatments for other serious diseases like smallpox and looking into the unexpected turn of events in southeast Asia where Covid-19 has had nearly no effect on countries like Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia, Spencer is not without hope.
So we’ll be discussing the situation as it stands, worse case scenarios, what solutions are no longer viable, and which solutions we may be able to turn to to combat the spread of Covid-19.
